Sacred Birth Keeping

A doula is one that serves. It is from greek origin and in todays world celebrates the holding of your hand guiding you while you navigate the journey of Pre and Postnatal Motherhood and Fatherhood. When Sophie finished her energy coaching studies within the Light Body School of the Four Winds Society she had a calling to be a birth keeper. Sophie's spiritual journey led her to do the Eat Pray Love doula training in Bali with some of the world's very best leading birth keeper facilitators such as  Ibu Robin of Bumi Sehat and Deborah Pascali Bonaro of Orgasmic Birth.

"It was deeply embedded in my heart and soul to become a birth keeper, my Grandfather was a GP and a birth keeper and was quite famous where I grew up! Often when people would discover my family name they would share with me that my Grandfather did their birth delivery!"

Sophie Akkineni

Supporting females in this sacred rite of passage by holding space is a heart felt passion.

When Sophie holds space for the pregnant Mama this energetically allows the fullness of the situation to come forward giving space, the ability to trust, creating connection and highly supporting with Love and confidence the sacred keys of birth that are required to energetically manifest the power of natural birth.

For Sophie this work is so important especially after learning so much that she wishes she knew when she was giving birth to her first born. There are so many birth keys that when shared enlighten and empower the pregnant Mama to BELIEVE she is made for birth.

These can be celebrated within the journey of pregnancy for both parents to be. Just as we spend so much time and focus on other milestones of life like coming of age, driving a car,  turning 18,  turning 21 and of course getting married. When one places their faith in a trained doula / birth keeper so much unnecessary stress is taken away because the birth keeper with her heart and soul protects, loves and guides with so much empathy and specialist training for the very best outcome for you and your family.

Working with Integrity

As a fully trained Doula through DONA International I take a lot of pride in being able to share knowledge for you and your partner on your pre natal journey. I draw on my professional training, knowledge and experience to provide: emotional support and physical comfort.

This ensures you have the information you need to make informed decisions as they arise in labour.I can provide reassurance and perspective to you and your partner, make suggestions for labour progress and help with relaxation, soothing touch, positioning and other techniques for comfort. I am independent and self employed. As your birth keeper, I am working for you, not your caregiver or hospital.

Pre - Labour
I will meet with you and your partner at least once to become acquainted, to explore and discuss your priorities and any fears or concerns, to discuss your birth plan or birth manifesto and to plan how we might best work together. It is very important to know and understand that as a birth keeper I am not a doctor or midwife therefore..

I do not:

1. Perform clinical tasks such as blood pressure, fetal heart checks, vaginal exams and others. I am there to provide only physical comfort and emotional support.

2.Make decisions for you. I will help you get the information necessary to make an informed decision. I will also remind you if there is a departure from your birth plan.

3.Speak to the medical team or staff on your behalf. I will discuss your concerns with you and suggest options, but you and your partner will speak directly to the clinical staff.

I am able to share lots of tips and great advice that help with the emotional and physical ups and downs. The beauty of my training is that it is scientifically led with facts so that you can be assured I do a really great job in helping you and your partner during all the stages of labour, during the birth and also Postnatally if required.
